“Don Samuels has spent a lifetime working with his neighbors to make neighborhoods like his in north Minneapolis safer for everyone–including and especially Black women and children–holding vigils for the fallen, demanding more of our elected leaders, and reducing homicides to the single digits during his time as Chair of the Public Safety Committee of the Minneapolis City Council.
“Rep. Ilhan Omar has been missing, at best, when it comes to making her constituents safer and, at worst, actively undermining efforts to improve safety. She led the Defund the Police movement while violent crime was rising. She was one of only 11 Democrats to vote against 2023 legislation to address the fentanyl crisis, the Support for Communities and Patients Act. In 2024, she was one of only six Democrats to vote against the Recruit and Retain Act, providing grants for cities to add additional police officers, and just two weeks before the ambush of Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell, she voted against a resolution condemning violence against police–the only Minnesota delegation member to do so. Incredibly, she even voted against additional funding to secure the U.S. Capitol after the January 6th riots, one of only three Democrats to do so. Sadly, the only thing Rep. Omar seems interested in policing is how criticism of her record is voiced.”
